E-mail Print PDF

The Transition Year Architects in School exhibition which is currently on display in Ballincollig Shopping Centre is the showcase of the fantastic work done by TY Students 2016 in Coláiste Choilm

The Architecture in Schools Initiative is a project set up by the Irish Architecture Foundation and the Department of Education to promote architecture in Schools. As part of the project each school collaborated with a local architect. Colaiste Choilm was one of twenty schools in Ireland selected to participate in the project in 2014. A group of twenty five transition year students were exposed to what architecture is through a series of design workshops and tutorials. As part of the programme the students did field trips to the Glucksmann Gallery, the National Sculpture Factory and the Architecture School; Cork College of Architecture Education on Copley Street.

Co-ordinating Teacher: Danny Moynihan

Co-ordinating Architect: Seán Antóin Ó Muirí

Coláiste Choilm recently won the Aidan Ross Memorial Cup, which was held in Dunmanway RFC on Thursday the 28th of April. The school entered two teams into the competition as the sport is growing in popularity amongst our students.

Our 'A' side beat Clonakilty Community School in a dramatic final. A great team effort was produced by the players throughout the tournament. Pictured below being presented the cup is team captain Ciaran Bohane (who currently plays with Ballincollig RFC and is involved with Munster RFC at underage).

TY Pilgrimage to Knock & Croagh Patrick

E-mail Print PDF

On Monday 4th April  2016 thiry-one TY students departed Coláiste Choilm accompanied by Miss Kelleher and Mr. O'Hara for a two day Pilgrimage.

On Monday we were given a tour of the newly refurbished Knock basilica and also the museum on the grounds. At midday we joined other pilgrims for the celebration of the holy Eucharist. Our day finished with a visit to the Cenacalo community house for reformed addicts whose motto is 'work, friendship & prayer'. We were humbled by the moving testimony of one of the residents who shared his life story with us.
The following day in glorious weather we followed in the footsteps of St. Patrick and climbed the 'Reek', or as it is better known Croagh Patrick.
A fantastic time was had by all.

            Mental Health Awareness Week
              April 4th -8th CC/GC 2016
      Seachtain Feasacht Meabhair Shláinte

As we all know, the key to surviving a bad day, a bad week or a difficult time in our lives is being aware of our mental health and knowing little things we can do to improve and maintain a positive outlook on life.
The Student Council and the SPHE Dept have created a number of events this week which will hopefully raise awareness among students and staff of the importance of caring for your mental health.
The Student Council have been inspired again this year by the 'Little Things Campaign'.The littlethings campaign highlights that we all experience difficult times in our lives and that when we do, there are some simple things that can make a big difference to how we feel .
This week :
1) The Little Things posters are displayed all over the school.
2) Positive thought posters are also displayed.
3) Religion teachers will organise a 'Random Act of Kindness' in all religion classes so that students get an opportunity to do something nice for their fellow students.
4) There will be a Random Act of Kindness board in the main social area, students will be encouraged to write (anonymously) acts of kindness done for them by others during the week.
5) The Student Council Notice Board contains all info about this week and also useful websites.
