Well done to our 38 Young Scientists of 2019 !

E-mail Print PDF

Congratulations to our Young Scientists and their mentors on their great achievements at YSE. The standard of entries was absolutely phenomenal and our students did us proud! To qualify for the Young Scientist Exhibition is a huge achievement in itself as this year over 2000 projects & 4000 students entered initially and only 550 were accepted. Our total of 17 projects and 38 students was the highest by far of any school. Great credit is due to the teachers who supervised the projects, provided superb support, coached the students for the judging and cared for them 24/7 over the four days. The prizes won were as follows:
- Liah Cremin – Alexion Special Award
- Caoimhe Buckley, Rebecca Sheehan & Maria O’Connor – Highly Commended
- Louise Ambrose & Emily Cotter – Highly Commended
- Liah Cremin – Highly Commended
- Rachel Hughes, Katie Lordan & Jodie Sullivan – Display Award
Many thanks to all teachers who travelled with the First Years to the Young Scientists Exhibition We hope this will inspire many young scientists for years to come.

Sir Bob Geldof gives an inspiring talk to a packed Cultúrlann

E-mail Print PDF

Nine times Nobel Peace Prize nominee, rock musician, social activist, Renaissance man Sir Bob Geldof inspired Coláiste  Choilm staff and students on Friday, October, 12th.

' A Fanatic Heart', Bob Geldof's film documentary on W. B. Yeats prompted a request to Bob Geldof to come to Colaiste Choilm and read his favourite Yeats poems. He accepted.

All gathered were electrified as Bob Geldof spoke widely: on Irish history, the need to engage politically, to recognise and cherish life as opportunity, the need for courage to reappraise heroes, viewpoints and values, to be vigilant in these turbulent times and to be very wary of social media.

All were riveted.

His huge generosity was again evident as he and Ms Jeanne Marine remained with students who requested selfies, signatures and handshakes.
