Congratulations to Denis Galvin sixth year who was a member of the U20 Irish Frisbee team who came second in the European Championships in Amsterdam this summer. Four past pupils - Seán Cahill, Adam Purcell, Brian O Broin and Cillian Ó Laocha were also on the team.

Fáiltímíd roimh an 46 dalta a thosnaigh sa chéad bhliain sa Ghaelcholáiste an tseachtain seo caite. D'fháílitigh  Caitríona Ní Thuathail ( OIde Bliana ) agus Daithí Ó Gallchóir ( Príomhoide Tánaisteach ) rompu nuair a thosnaigh siad amach ar a n-aistear scolaíochta dara leibhéal. Go n-éirí go geal leo sna seachtainí atá romhainn.

Thank you so much to all who supported Ballincollig Darkness Into Light 2017.  We raised an incredible €52,768.51.  The walk which began and ended in Coláiste Choilm, was a wonderful show of community spirit as so many came togethter to show their support for Pieta House. Whether you took part in registration, poured tea, ran, walked or supported in any way on the morning of May 6th last....THANK YOU.

 

Con's excellence recognised at Cambridge !

Congratulations to Con Moran (5th year) who was awarded Highly Commended in the Peterhouse Cambridge Kelvin Science Essay Prize 2017. Peterhouse College is a Cambridge University who through this competition acknowledge students’ ability, achievements and interest in Science. This is a remarkable achievement by Con who was placed in the top seven of two hundred and fifty entries from all over the world. Con hopes to study biological sciences in Cambridge.


This is the second year in a row that a Coláiste Choilm student has achieved in the Kelvin Science Essay Prize. Last year David McMahon (6th year) was also awarded Highly Commended. Congratulation s to the Science Department for nurturing such tremendous interest in the sciences and particular thanks to Ms. Padraigín O’Donoghue for supporting Con and David in their application. Last September Padraigín arranged for Adrian Dixon former Master of Peterhouse to visit Coláiste Choilm and present to senior students on studying science in third level.

Ciarán helps Munster win the UL Trophy !

Congratulations to Ciarán Ó Buacháin (5th Year) on being selected to play for Munster u18's. Ciarán recently took part in a tournament in  the University of Limerick where he helped his province secure the 'UL Trophy' by beating Connacht u18's on a scoreline of 21-12. Ciarán is hoping to take part in an Inter-Provincial tournament in September/October of this year with Munster. Ciarán also plays with both his local rugby club Ballincollig RFC and the school rugby team in Coláiste Choilm.

 

Colaiste Choilm win Lord Mayor's Cup

Congratulations to the Coláiste Choilm u17 1/2 Football team who won the Lord Mayor's Cup at Páirc Ui Rinn on the 15th May.
The Cork City Lord Mayor Des Cahill presented the cup after a closely fought final against De La Salle Macroom.

Coláiste Choilm 4-13 v  De La Salle Macroom 4-10.

Ms. Marian Baldwin (Year Head) welcomed 6 sets of twins to a photoshoot to get the ball rolling for the First Years of 2017.  221 students start their secondary school life in Coláiste Choilm  / Gaelcholáiste Choilm this week and we wish them all the best . As it happens, we also had 6 sets of twins back in 2007. Read the full story in The Irish Times.

Darkness into Light 5k Walk/Run Sat 6th May

The Dartkness into Light Walk/Run for Ballincollig took place on Saturday 6th May beginning and ending at Coláiste Choilm.
Over 20,000 took part both walking and running in Cork City and County including Ballincollig for the first time.
This was a nationwide event to raise funds and create awareness for the services offered at Pieta House.

An Post Letter Competition Winner - JC History

An Post ran a national competition on hand writing with a historical theme this year year in line with previous competitions. The entrants had to write a letter using the the Coggalbeg Hoard, a Bronze age site discovery in Co Roscommon, as the theme of the letter.

Allie Cleary, Second Year Rang Lia was first in the Junior Certificate Category for the competition. The prize involved a trip to the GPO Interpretative Centre for Allie’s class and an award ceremony (attached photo) where Allie was presented with her certificate.

 

3ú hÁit i Siansa Gael Linn 2017 bainte amach ag Leoithne

Tháinig an grúpa ‘Leoithne’ ó Ghaelcholáiste/Coláiste Choilm, Baile an Chollaigh, Contae Chorcaí, sa tríú háit ag Craobhchomórtas Siansa Gael Linn 2017 le déanaí. Bhí an comórtas á reáchtáil ag Gael Linn, le tacaíocht ó RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta agus Irish Music Magazine. Tá Siansa ar cheann de na mórimeachtaí ar fhéilire na gceoltóirí óga.

Leoithne gave a spectacular performance at the final of the prestigious Siansa Gael Linn competition in The National Concert Hall in Dublin recently. The concert was broadcast live on Radio Na Gaeltachta & compered by the station's popular presenter Áine Hensey. This competition celebrates the cream of young traditional musicians from all around the country. Awarded with 3rd place & prize money, the group's magnificent performance puts them in line with previous winners such as the much celebrated band 'Goitse'.
