Drama Exchange to the U.K.

E-mail Print PDF

18 students of TY Drama are off to Coventry in the UK on Friday morning. While there, they'll be getting a civic reception from the Mayor of Coventry, visiting the Royal Shakespeare Company, having drama workshops on the theme of emigration, and performing their production of Tom Murphy's Whistle in the Dark (about 5 brothers who emigrate from Ireland to Coventry).

The show is in preview in L3 on Weds and Thurs evening this week, at 7:15 (finishing at approx 9:45).

The Coventry Students will be in Ballincollig in late March, when they'll display a multimedia project about the lives and times of the Irish in Coventry.

The exchange is being funded by grants from the County and City Councils who have been very generous in their support of the project.

Chuaigh 26 daltaí ó Ghaelcholáiste Choilm and triúir ón mórscoil go dtí an Fhrainc ón 26 Eanáir go dtí 2 Feabhra. D'fhanadar san bhaile Vernon, 40 nóiméad ó Pháras lena pháirtnéir Fraincíse agus a chlann nó san scoil. Tháinig siad ar an Satharn san tráthnóna agus chaith siad an deireadh seachtaine ag fáil compordach lena chlann.

Garden Bird Survey 2012/3

E-mail Print PDF

Long-tailed Tit. Picture by Michael Finn.

Between December and February each year,Bird Watch Ireland asks members of the public to keep note of the highest number of each bird species visiting their garden every week.  They also ask for information on the size of the garden being surveyed, the kinds of food, if any, being offered to the birds, and so on.  Taking part is fun, easy and an ideal way to get to know your garden birds better; it also makes an ideal school project.Take part in the survey here.

27 Musicals Later

E-mail Print PDF

We are in our 25th year of the school but we are embarking on our 27th Musical Production. The fact that we had two in some years accounts for this. A unique feature of the Musical is that we invariably have two and occasionally three casts performing on the different nights. It is the ultimate nightmare for sound technicians but ensures optimum opportunity for the abundance of talented performers.

It is difficult to talk of favourites but a full production of HMS Pinafore which managed "to sail" in the Ballincollig G.A.A. Pavilion in 1987 in our first year was memorable. "Jesus Christ Superstar" was the first production to feature in the School Culturlann. Les Miserables was a first for an amateur group in Ireland and one of the most ambitious undertakings.
