German Day Jan 2016

E-mail Print PDF

On the 14th of January the German Department and TY students organised a yearly event – the German Day. The idea behind German Day is to introduce 1st year students to various aspects of German language and culture. On the day, the students visited workstations and stalls in Halla Phadraig to take part in quizes, activities, competitions, created Karnival masks, learned songs and tasted German food. The activities were prepared by a group of Transition Year students who had worked independently on developing ideas and facilitating them during 1st year class visits. While the 1st year students had a great chance to learn about  German culture in a very enjoyable way, the TYs have shown more advanced research and organisational skills in their role as enthusiastic promoters of German.

D’eagraigh an comhairle mac léinn turas go dtí na picitúrlainne  agus chuaigh muintir na chéad bhliain go léir síos go dtí an phictúrlann chun scannán a fheiscint. D’íoc siad €5 an duine agus chuaigh €2 as gach ticéad go dtí ‘St Vincent de Paul’. As sin fuair SVP níos mó ná €500. Tháinig cainteoir ó Naomh Uinseann de Phól go dtí tionóil an chéad bhliain, thugamar an seic dó agus mínigh sé do na daltaí cá raibh an tairgead ag dul.
