E-mail Print PDF

Thank you to the whole school community for raising almost €1,000 for Pieta House during the Positive Mental Health Week.
The Student Council organised a non-uniform day on the Friday before Easter where the theme was the wearing of the colour yellow and the focus was on helping and understanding others and getting people to laugh and smile and to appreciate positive things in the simple everyday life of the school.

Behind the Scene's Ltd

This year the Transition Year Group are producing an 80's musical called "Flashdance". Behind the Scenes Ltd. are the TY Mini Company that runs the business behind our school show with the helpof our business teacher Ms. O'Neill. We have a big role to play in the success of the show. We are currently organising sponsorship for the funding of the show. Local businesses in the area sponsor Coláiste Choilm every year and a show programme is produced. We will also be heavily involved in the marketing of the event throughout the school. We design, print and sell the tickets to our student population of over 1000 students. We are responsible for all cash-flow in and out of the business. Accounts need to be kept and we balance our books on a regular basis!!!! We have been working as a part of a team since the company was formed and everyone involved is enjoying the experience

E-mail Print PDF

18 students of TY Drama are off to Coventry in the UK on Friday morning. While there, they'll be getting a civic reception from the Mayor of Coventry, visiting the Royal Shakespeare Company, having drama workshops on the theme of emigration, and performing their production of Tom Murphy's Whistle in the Dark (about 5 brothers who emigrate from Ireland to Coventry).

The show is in preview in L3 on Weds and Thurs evening this week, at 7:15 (finishing at approx 9:45).

The Coventry Students will be in Ballincollig in late March, when they'll display a multimedia project about the lives and times of the Irish in Coventry.

The exchange is being funded by grants from the County and City Councils who have been very generous in their support of the project.

Garden Bird Survey 2012/3

E-mail Print PDF

Long-tailed Tit. Picture by Michael Finn.

Between December and February each year,Bird Watch Ireland asks members of the public to keep note of the highest number of each bird species visiting their garden every week.  They also ask for information on the size of the garden being surveyed, the kinds of food, if any, being offered to the birds, and so on.  Taking part is fun, easy and an ideal way to get to know your garden birds better; it also makes an ideal school project.Take part in the survey here.

27 Musicals Later

E-mail Print PDF

We are in our 25th year of the school but we are embarking on our 27th Musical Production. The fact that we had two in some years accounts for this. A unique feature of the Musical is that we invariably have two and occasionally three casts performing on the different nights. It is the ultimate nightmare for sound technicians but ensures optimum opportunity for the abundance of talented performers.

It is difficult to talk of favourites but a full production of HMS Pinafore which managed "to sail" in the Ballincollig G.A.A. Pavilion in 1987 in our first year was memorable. "Jesus Christ Superstar" was the first production to feature in the School Culturlann. Les Miserables was a first for an amateur group in Ireland and one of the most ambitious undertakings.
