Open Night / Oíche Oscailte 2017

The Coláíste Choilm Open Night 2017 took place on Tuesday 26th September at 7.15pm.

Bhí Oíche Oscailte 2017 Ghaelcholáiste Choilm ar siúl ar an gCéadaoin 27ú Meán Fomhair ag 7i.n.

The Admissions Policy for Coláiste Choilm/Gaelcholáiste Choilm is attached below in both an English and Irish version.
The Prospectuses for both schools are also attached.

Tá an Polasaí Iontrála do Choláiste Cholm/Ghaelcholáiste Choilm ceangailte thíos i leagan Gaeilge agus i leagan Béarla.
Tá na Réamheolairí don dá scoil faoi iamh chomh maith.

The school staff and students welcomed hundreds of prospective students and their parents and guardians to the school on both nights.

The nights were informative, interesting and inspirational - well done to all !

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 !

The students of the class of 2017 distinguished themselves in the cultural, academic, sporting and  scientific spheres over their six years in  Coláiste Choilm. Their recent Leaving  Certificate results were once again exceptional and yet again ahead of the  national averages.  Congratulations to Alex Finn who achieved 613 points. Seven  students achieved 600 points or more, 28  achieved 550 points or more and many  achieved their personal best.  Once again it is a matter of great satisfaction and pride that students achieve at such a high level in a truly holistic environment

CC/GC 1st Year Twins feature in this video to promote the upcoming UNESCO Lifelong Learning Conference hosted by Cork

The conference will run from September 18th -20th. The theme of this years’ conference is “Global Goals, Local Actions towards lifelong learning for all in 2030.” Conference delegates will include mayors, city education executives and UNESCO experts, along with international organisations, non-government organisations and private-sector partners who are experts in the field of lifelong learning. #LearningCities2017 #Cork #UNESCO

Thanks to Jay, Maria, Zack  and Amy, members of the Student Council, who attended the Cork Matters 'World Cafe' event. The Cork Matters project aims to gather information about what life is like for children, teenagers and their families who live in the Ballincollig community.

An induction day was held on Friday 25th August for the 221 students who started their secondary school life in Coláiste Choim and Gaelcholáiste Choilm in 2017. Ms. Michelle Sliney ( Principal ) , Ms Marian Baldwin ( Year Head ) and Ms. Maria O Sullivan ( Deputy Principal ) welcomed the Coláiste Choilm group to the Cultlúrlann and students began their journey with us. We wish each and every one of the 175 students well in their first weeks !

D'fháílitigh  Caitríona Ní Thuathail ( OIde Bliana ) agus Daithí Ó Gallchóir ( Príomhoide Tánaisteach ) rompu nuair a thosnaigh siad amach ar a n-aistear scolaíochta dara leibhéal. Go n-éirí go geal leo sna seachtainí atá romhainn.

Con's excellence recognised at Cambridge !

Congratulations to Con Moran (5th year) who was awarded Highly Commended in the Peterhouse Cambridge Kelvin Science Essay Prize 2017. Peterhouse College is a Cambridge University who through this competition acknowledge students’ ability, achievements and interest in Science. This is a remarkable achievement by Con who was placed in the top seven of two hundred and fifty entries from all over the world. Con hopes to study biological sciences in Cambridge.

This is the second year in a row that a Coláiste Choilm student has achieved in the Kelvin Science Essay Prize. Last year David McMahon (6th year) was also awarded Highly Commended. Congratulation s to the Science Department for nurturing such tremendous interest in the sciences and particular thanks to Ms. Padraigín O’Donoghue for supporting Con and David in their application. Last September Padraigín arranged for Adrian Dixon former Master of Peterhouse to visit Coláiste Choilm and present to senior students on studying science in third level.

Congratulations to Denis Galvin sixth year who was a member of the U20 Irish Frisbee team who came second in the European Championships in Amsterdam this summer. Four past pupils - Seán Cahill, Adam Purcell, Brian O Broin and Cillian Ó Laocha were also on the team.

Thank you so much to all who supported Ballincollig Darkness Into Light 2017.  We raised an incredible €52,768.51.  The walk which began and ended in Coláiste Choilm, was a wonderful show of community spirit as so many came togethter to show their support for Pieta House. Whether you took part in registration, poured tea, ran, walked or supported in any way on the morning of May 6th last....THANK YOU.


Ciarán helps Munster win the UL Trophy !

Congratulations to Ciarán Ó Buacháin (5th Year) on being selected to play for Munster u18's. Ciarán recently took part in a tournament in  the University of Limerick where he helped his province secure the 'UL Trophy' by beating Connacht u18's on a scoreline of 21-12. Ciarán is hoping to take part in an Inter-Provincial tournament in September/October of this year with Munster. Ciarán also plays with both his local rugby club Ballincollig RFC and the school rugby team in Coláiste Choilm.
