German Day Jan 2016

E-mail Print PDF

On the 14th of January the German Department and TY students organised a yearly event – the German Day. The idea behind German Day is to introduce 1st year students to various aspects of German language and culture. On the day, the students visited workstations and stalls in Halla Phadraig to take part in quizes, activities, competitions, created Karnival masks, learned songs and tasted German food. The activities were prepared by a group of Transition Year students who had worked independently on developing ideas and facilitating them during 1st year class visits. While the 1st year students had a great chance to learn about  German culture in a very enjoyable way, the TYs have shown more advanced research and organisational skills in their role as enthusiastic promoters of German.

U19 National Cup Final Snr Basketball

E-mail Print PDF

2016 spbbu19 200

On Wednesday 27th January, many Coláiste Choilm students travelled to Tallaght to support their Senior Boys Basketball Team in the Subway U19 National Cup Final. The National Basketball Arena had a great atmosphere due to this highly anticipated game. The well-known rivalry between Cork and Dublin was very evident, with Coláiste Choilm representing Cork as the number one seed and St.Aidans representing Dublin.
The Dublin natives got off the mark very quickly and raced their way to a 20 – 4 first quarter lead. Coláiste Choilm was inspired by their co-captains Bryan Murphy and Dylan Brickley and U16 Irish Internationals Darragh O’Sullivan and Jack Murphy, who provided a spark off the bench. Conor O’Sullivan led the team with 20 points and Dylan Corkery helped to cut the lead to less than 10 on two occasions. Unfortunately U18 and U17 Irish Internationals Tarig Guebaili, Matt Treacy and Brian Ashton proved too strong and St.Aidans won 90 – 71. Guebaili collected the cup and the MVP Award for the Whitehall side.
A lot of credit must be given to Coach Francis O’Sullivan, all the fans and teachers Ms. Catherine O’Toole and Ms. Caroline Murphy.
